🪡This will be a project available to our Sewing Circle members but also a workshop open to enrolment by anyone. You’ll have the option of weighting the doll for older children (who love the sensory feeling of heaviness) or leaving it soft and cuddly for little ones.

….And don’t worry if you’ve never sewed or made a doll before… this is very achievable and as I always say… the little imperfections are what create the magic and realness your children will love ✨

King Winter ❄️ has just arrived in the Sewing Circle as our June project.
 ✨Seasonal dolls make a beautiful adornment to a seasonal nature table - a little space in your home where you can enjoy a bit of the seasons magic

✨the perfect place to display treasures your child collects from nature & things you craft or gather to reflect the season.

✨Rhythms & rituals hold our children (in the often uncertainly of daily life these days) and help them feel safe & secure. I’ve found that the more rhythm we can bring to our days, our week and the year (by following the seasons) …the more our children can sink into this knowing of “what’s coming next”.

✨As the new season comes, so too comes the magic of that season….special things that are anticipated and remembered. Autumn may bring 🍁 apple picking 🍎where you live and Winter a magical nighttime 🕯️lantern walk. These things build on one another to create a strong rhythmical knowing of what comes next for our children.

✨ So the seasonal table is a simply way to cycle through the year & the changing seasons without needing too much explanation to our children. Instead the images offer them archetypical images that speak to their soul and delight their imaginations, while orientating them in the rhythm of the year.

A few simple ways to get started adding a little m

A few simple ways to get started adding a little magic and meaning to your child’s birthday celebrations. ✨

Of course birthdays are always about magic, but adding in a few meaningful elements can really honour the sacredness of this milestone for our children, especially when the presents and party is over.

⭐️ My most favourite of these are the birthdays stars. Beautiful handmade felt or fabric stars that appear under their pillow in the nights leading up to the birthday. I talk more about these in one of my pinned post.

Other simple rituals that bring magic & meaning…

✨ “A Night Before Birthday” ritual - whether it is a verse you say or something you do to prepare for the special day.

👑 Birthday Cape & Crown - we generally use the same one each year, however as my girls have grown I also made them a flower crown as something a little more grown up.

🍄 The Birthday table - a celebration of things they love with a few birthday treats…

📒The Birthday Book - filled with pictures and little notes about your child. This is something special to look back on and to share with them as they get older.

🌈 A Birthday Story - whether you buy one or write your own… a simple story that is told on the birthday eve & week speaks to the child’s soul of the magic of their earthly journey.

🌙 Children Reflection meditation - we know that energy is everything - so when YOU set aside some time to reflect on your child’s past year, you’ll be amazed at what comes to you. (I have a lovely child reflection mediation that comes along with the ebook).

When starting your rituals & rhythms, my recommendation is to choose one or more that you can commit to year after year…don’t go over the top as they’ll be disappointed if this doesn’t continue :)

Here are my thoughts on organising your creative supplies 🧶🪡✂️

(( ….and read on for my number one rule!))

✨Old cupboards, bookshelves and dressers make the perfect home for your creative supplies. One of my most useful pieces is a vintage kitchen/ serving trolley.

✨Claim whatever space you can (for years I didn’t have a space of my own) - perhaps clear out a kitchen dresser or cupboard space in your lounge room and make some space for your creativity.

✨ I find it useful to have baskets of all shapes and sizes for storing bits & bobs in…. Embroidery threads, and especially for taking my projects with me around the home.

✨ Tins are also a favourite way to store sewing notions such as buttons, needle packets & embroidery threads.

✨ Little sets of wooden drawers are wonderful for storing & organising sewing notions.

✨ Little jars are great for storing beads & sequins in.

✨ Pretty cardboard boxes (such as those that play tea sets up in) are great for storing things - I use one for my vintage lace collection.

✨ Plastic containers are super practical to keep supplies safe from insects & dampness etc. The ones with compartments are great for storing things such as wooden peg dolls, wooden beads, seedpods, walnut shells, gum nuts etc.

✨Plastic sleeve folders are perfect for storing your pattern sheets. I keep my cut out patterns in little envelopes inside the folder - so whenever I want to jump back into project everything is ready to go.

✂️🪡🧵 So what’s my number one rule when setting up your creative space and organising your sewing supplies?

🌸 Make it beautiful & aesthetically pleasing! Focus on little details & keeping similar things together. 🌸 When everything has a home, it makes tidying up so much easier and when things are beautiful, it makes the process of creating even more enjoyable🌸

🍄 Seasonal swaps are something we host a few times a year inside the Sewing Circle (our monthly membership).

🐌 Participants put together a little package of treasures to send to another member in the Circle to inspire their sewing journey.
💛 It’s a lovely way to connect with a likeminded member, share supplies & enjoy the magic of receiving a special package curated just for you.

Some of my favourite things to include are…
✨ favourite fabric or felt scraps
✨ hand dyed threads and yarn
✨ a special recipe
✨ a quote or little book (my mum bought me little books like this one for almost every birthday 💗)
✨ a delicious tea bag or loose leaf tea
✨ seasonal verse for the nature table
✨ something handmade - personally I always love giving little dolls, angels or faeries (because that’s what I love making best) or something useful such as a special pincushion 🧵✂️🪡

🍄 A little behind the scenes at what I’ve been creating over the past few weeks. We have a mushroom 🍄 theme coming to the membership this month ✨

🍄 The little mushroom folk family is still a work in progress so don’t look too closely! I never really like sharing projects before they are finished but many of you asked to see more behind the scenes. So I’m ignoring my perfectionist tendencies just for you 😆 and of course I need to practice what I teach… the magic is in the imperfection ✨

🍄 My creations often go through a few different versions before I settle on the final design. ✂️ Interestingly the mama started out as a Mother Earth but she didn’t feel quite right… I think she was just waiting for her family to come to life and now she feels so perfect as the mushroom mama 🍄✨🍁. I

🍄 always seem to borrow elements from my other projects when I’m creating - it helps me envision the finished creation.

🍄 Right now it’s all about the mushroom caps (maybe you’ll peek one of the other projects with a mushroom cap?) and these inspired the mushroom folk. I’m now feeling the grandpa is a little small so I’ve made a bigger body for him and I feel there is a third little mushroom child coming! ✨✂️🪡

🐇🌱✨ Every year for the last 13 years ((since beginning on my Waldorf journey)) I’ve created an Easter table. 🐇It’s been something that I put together the night before and it appears to be something that my children really look forward too.🌱 It’s my gift to them and it’s lovely having a beautiful centrepiece for our whole family and guests to enjoy.

((And of course it means I get to create a little more magic ✨))

🌱🐇✨The sprouting of new shoots is a beautiful image to bring to our children at Easter time. How magical to awake on Easter morning to the Easter Bunny/ Hares trail of munching mess in the Easter Grass ✨

I started this tradition when my eldest was 1 and fell in love with how something so very simple could bring more excitement than all the chocolate that was on offer ✨🌱🐇

TO GATHER >>>

🌱 Wheat grain seeds
🌱 Eggs shells, old tea cups, egg cups or bowls
🌱 Soil or Coir Peat (if you’d like your easter grass to be sprouting in a few days…works a treat!)
🌱 Small watering can or spray bottle to keep near the seeds

BEFORE PLANTING >>> 🌱 SOAK YOUR SEEDS!

24- 48 hours before planting, I begin soaking the wheat seeds in a glass jar of spring water. During this period I wash & refresh the water at least twice.

TIME TO PLANT >>>

🌱 I’ve always made this a special activity that I do with my children. Remember that a little bit of prep from you will mean lots of magic for them.

>>> If using the Coir Peat, make sure you soak in a little bucket or container with lots of water….this can then be used just like soil to plant your wheat seeds into.

🌱 Layer the containers & egg shells with soil or coir peat and plant the soaked seeds. Make sure the seeds are then covered with a little extra soil or coir peat.

☀️ Place them somewhere with lots of sunshine but sheltered from the weather.

🌱 Your children now have the very important work of watering and tending to the sprout daily to make sure the Easter Hare has something yummy to eat when he comes visiting. A little spray bottle or jug will work well.

✨Enjoy the magic of preparation…..I’m quite sure you’ll have very excited children each morning as they go and check how the sprouts are growing!
