It’s time to stop letting doubt control you

divider-new-1

Today I’m sharing some musings on doubt and all those feelings that arise when we go to begin something new or do something differently – whether it be a new creative project, a personal decision, a business idea. Whatever it is, you’re not alone in the feeling of doubting yourself.

Doubt disconnects us from what it is we desire to create in our life. It stops us from moving forward, from trying things and possibly making mistakes – mistakes which in fact offer us insight and learning that allow us to pivot or get more clarity.

Doubting ourselves is a waste of time. We know it and yet so often we spend months and years and maybe even decades doubting what it is we should do. The decision. The creative project. the business. whatever it is.

When doubt arrives….

“I can’t really be supposed to do this”.

“Compared to everyone else I’m really not that good”.

“I have no idea what I am doing.”

“What was I even thinking….”

“But I’d really love to do it.”

“I feel like it is something I’m here to do.”

“It feels really aligned but I’m just not sure.”

And so it begins….we talk ourselves around in circles.

The procrastination. The perfectionism. The pausing. The overthinking. The self sabotage. The house cleaning. The shopping. The scrolling. All disguises for the fear and doubt of sharing ourselves with the world.

Where does it come from? Why does it come?

I think there is something within us, perhaps the wounded child, that says “no, it’s not safe – you don’t want to go there, you don’t want to do it” but still something deeper beckons you, pulls you forward.

I think of the beautiful quote…

“what you seek is seeking you” – Rumi

You can’t get the idea out of your mind. You feel stuck right in the middle of wanting it and not knowing how to actually do it. Well, you know the steps you need to take, but there seems to be a disconnect between your soul and your body. There’s no real confusion around what you need to do, simply resistance to actually physically beginning the things that will take you forward.

Those around you encourage you to just do it, to take action, any action, but for some reason it just doesn’t seem that easy. By this stage your soul is screaming but your body numb.

So what now?

We are stuck in this transitional place.

Filled with discomfort but also gifting us the insight into what is needing to be surrendered.

The old way.

What old ways are gripping you so tightly that you are unable to move forward?

Those things that the wounded child within you experienced…she knows them so well that she’ll do whatever it takes right now to prevent you having to relive them again. Even if what you are about to do is different, is actually safe, will actually move you closer towards your soul work.

Whether they came from this lifetime or maybe even lifetimes before, I think you’ll agree that there comes a time when we simply cannot keep the cycle going without a part of our Spirit dying.

So when we are ready to rise, it’s time to let those feelings of doubt and inadequacy fall away.

Time to act on the nudges, the inspiration and the whispers from your soul.

I think it’s time, don’t you?

Your Soul, she knows what she’s doing…

Are you ready to lean in and trust her?

…..

Ahhh, our friend doubt. Cultivating a strong connection to my soul, my higher self, my spirit – whatever it is you call it, has helped me work with the doubt that comes when I’m creating and in making the big decisions.

I don’t think it is something that ever goes away, but it is something that we can work alongside and learn not to give too much authority over moving us forward.

I’d love to know what feelings this brings up for you? What areas of your life feel highlighted by these words? Leave me a comment. I love hearing from you.

You’re amazing and in case no one told you today, “you’ve got this”.
